Social activism is nothing new for French-born Alexia Simonnard-Note. In addition
to being a Junior Rider Ambassador for JustWorld International, she is involved in
conservation. At the age of 12, she became a member of the World Wildlife Fund as
well as the Natural Resources Defense Council. In her junior year at Greenwich
Academy in Connecticut, Alexia became the President of the Greenwich Conservation
Club. In that role, she single-handedly organized an assembly for the World
Conservation Center that raised $1,200.
Her involvement in JustWorld International is a natural fit, as she could combine
her love for horses with helping others. Training with Olympic Silver Medallist
Peter Leone, Alexia's top horse is Duran, a grey German-bred mare that won several
puissance competitions, including successfully jumping 2.20m on two occasions, in
Germany before being imported to the United States in 2000. Since then, Alexia and
Duran have successfully competed at the High Junior/Amateur level all across
America. Alexia says that not only does Duran have a talent for jumping, but he is
also very talented when it comes to finding treats in Alexia's pockets.
