The oldest son of Dutch Olympic Gold Medallist Piet Raijmakers, Piet Junior is making a name for himself in the sport of show jumping. In fact, Piet's younger brother is also involved in the horse industry, and the whole family is based together on the family farm. They are sponsored by the Van Schijndel Boewgroup, another family-owned business that has been supporting Piet Raijmakers for more than 25 years.
Having ridden a little bit all his life, Piet Jr. only began riding seriously in 2001. Prior to that, he enjoyed playing hockey and was the captain of his team. He also worked in construction and built the indoor riding arena on the family farm.
Piet, Jr., rode alongside his father when he made his Nations' Cup debut at CSIO4* Lisbon in 2005. Following two rounds, the Dutch were tied for first place with the British, forcing a sudden-death jump-off. Piet, Jr., was chosen to represent the Dutch side in the jump-off, and secured victory for his country. Piet also rode on the Nations' Cup team at CSIO5* Gijon, Spain, in 2005 where the Dutch placed third.
Immediately after becoming a Rider Ambassador for JustWorld International at the beginning of 2006, Piet celebrated by tying for the win in the Prix Volvo Six Bar competition at CSI3* Nantes, France, riding Van Schijndel's Optical for his father, who was sidelined with an injury. His own top horse is Van Schijndel's Rascin, a stallion by Ramiro Z that stands at the family farm.
A true animal lover, Piet sincerely cares for all of his horses and finds it difficult to part with any of them.
